(Bed Time, Damien, New, Talk, Xavier)
Both Sergey and Damien are talking more.
One of the cutest is when Sergey is looking for Damien, he starts to call out “Damien, where are you”.
Damien also likes to use my parental “What’s going on here?” when he walks into a room.
Makes me want to start speaking with a pritish accent and saying “Right! What’s all this then?”, ala Monty Python.
Even Damien’s teachers say that he is hitting less and talking more, which is good, I would hate for him to stop hitting, but all good things must come to an end.
Damien is into reading books aloud to himself, though I think he is just remembering what we say based on ques he gets from the pictures. So I should probably stop making up much more interesting sub stories and inserting them just to amuse myself, or soon Damien will be repeating those.
Sergey really likes Goodnight Moon, so much so that he will often request it twice, once in the original size and again in the larger “Lap Addition” size (so named because once you open it there is no longer room on your lap for children).
as for singing, Damien can sing Humpty Dumpty, and most of Spiderman, Sergey is getting good at A B C’s.
Damien has started saying “No thankyou Papa”, which is probably my Mom’s doing, with the “no thankyou helping”.
Last night when puting them to bed, Sergey asked for “Ice water” as a delying tactic, while Damien told Sergey “Time to sleep Sergey”, “Get in the bed and go to sleep”, “It’s night night time, time to sleep Sergey”. As a father, “I approve this message”.

(Bed Time, NaBloPoMo, New, Sergey)
Yesterday we took Sergey’s Crib down, and put the matress on the floor.
This is to get him ready for the toddler bed, my idea is that he is going to fall off the bed now that there is no fence to stop him.
With the mattress being only a few inches off the floor the impact shouldn’t be that bad {floor is carpeted and I have a folded quilt there as well}.
With nothing to stop him Sergey got up off he mattress several times, but finally did fall asleep.
He still got up at night as often, but we were able to pet him and snuggle with him on the mattress which we couldn’t do when he was in the crib, this meant that Sergey didn’t sleep with us for the first time in a week, and we were able to get some real sleep instead of having to keep one eye {or arm} open watching after Sergey, so he didn’t roll or climb out of our bed.
The big bonus was that when the boys woke up this morning, they played with each other letting us sleep until almost 8:30, about two hours longer than we were used to.
this night Damien took an interest in sleeping on just the mattress but he fell asleep in the chair while being read to to usurp Sergey from his mattress..

(Bed Time, Damien, New)
For quite some time now Damien had a rocking chair in his room. The idea being that we could rock him back to sleep if he woke during the night. Once Damien was in his toddler bed he took the initiative and would climb into the chair to rock himself to sleep.
Being Damien he wouldn’t rock gently, he would rock back enough to lift the rocker partially off the floor (sort of like leaning back in a chair), and when he rocked forward the rocker would come down with a Thump!
On the plus side Damien stopped bothering us at night, because he would rock himself to sleep. On the down side we would have to listen to Thump Thump, Thump Thump, Thump Thump, sometimes until 3:00 AM.
When Damien would go back too far there would be a Thump THUMP!
Which is when I would run into his room to find him rocking like a hurricane in the chair, with a sleepy grin on his face, and I would tell him to rock gently.
Only once did we here a Thump Thump, THUMP! BANG!
When we checked on Damien room, the rocker was on its back, on the floor, and Damien was in his bed trying his best to look innocent.
With Sergey and Damien sharing the room, the rocker was a nice distraction for Damien when he couldn’t or wouldn’t sleep, he would rock but he would leave Sergey alone, and Sergey had no trouble sleeping through it.
Damien started sleeping in the rocker, and then he started sleeping only when the rocker was moving. So he would wake up several times during the night to get the rocker moving again so he could fall back to sleep.
Last week (after the floating shoes incident) he was rocking himself to sleep while half asleep. Some how he had rotated the rocker (it’s a swivel rocker) so it faced the wall rather than the room. He must have dozed off while on the edge of the rocker because he tumbled out the rocker and hit his bed and the register.
That was enough for me so while Olya comforted Damien I moved the rocker out of the room, and noticed that he had shaken a bolt loose from the underside, hmmmm. I replaced it with a cushioned non rocking chair.
I wasn’t sure how the new chair would go over with Damien who liked to rock to sleep.
I didn’t have long to wait, shortly after putting the new chair in, Damien climbed in and immediately began to try and rock the chair, gently at first, then when that didn’t work, really slamming his small body into the back of the chair.
After a few tries with the chair not moving at all, Damien looked at me and said “Chair broken”? That is when I used the traditional parenting method used to calm and sooth children through out the ages. I LIED. “yes the chair is broken” I said.
He took it really well, “night, night” he said as he went back to his bed.
Now when we here a Thump in the night, we are never sure what it means, though usually it is from Damien climbing into Sergey’s crib, usually.

(Bed Time, Song)
When I put Damien down for the night I like to sing songs to him after a story.
I am trying to diversify with some fun songs, and I just found the lyrics to the old TV cartoon.
Spiderman
Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.
Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He’s got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.
In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.
Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He’s ingnored
Action is his reward.
To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there’s a hang up
You’ll find the Spider man.

(Bed Time, Damien)
On Monday the weather was so nice out that Damien spent almost the whole day playing outside at daycare, we were told to expect Damien to go to bed early.
I really didn’t put that much stock into that because Damien does not have an “OFF” stwitch, he has two settings “ON” and “FAST”.
Later that night we went to my Mom’s house for dinner with my Grandma and uncle Joe, this was a double birthday celebration for me and Olya. Damien was his normal active self refusing to sit still and spent most of the evening driving a car around the furniture in the Living room and Dinning room (while we were still eating of course).
At 8:30 we got the kids dressed in their pajamas.
Since the kids normally are put down by 9PM, the plan was to leave at 9 and let the fall asleep in the car on the drive home, then tuck them into bed.
Well Damien did not want to wait that long.
During picture time around 8:45 we asked Damien to give hugs for some cute photo shots.
When Damien was asked to hug baby Sergey, he not only hugged him but tried to lift him up.
Now Damien is just over two and Sergey is 6 months, and is around 15 lbs. So Sergey didn’t go very far, and I wasn’t sure what Damien was up to. Then Damien went across the room and retrieved Sergey’s bunny suit we put on him for traveling, and he gave it to Sergey and said “On, on.” Damien tried to lift Sergey again to no avail, then he dregged Sergey’s car seat over to him to the couch next to where Sergey was sitting on Grandma’s lap. Sergey was just happy for all the attention from Damien. Since Sergey wan’t getting his bunny suit on and Damien was unable to lif him, Damien put the bunny suit into the car seat, then tried to drag Sergey off Grandma’s lap and into the car seat.
That is when we knew it was time to get going.
On the ride home Sergey slept but Damien was awake the entire time, but quite.
When we got home, and took off his shoes and coat, and hat don’t forget the hat (Damien never forgets the hat, and he will remind you if you do.) Damien marched up the stairs on his own, then down the hall, into his room then straight to bed he went, no book, no song, just “Night, night.” as I put the quilt over him and turned out the light.

(Bed Time, Walk)
It was such a nice night last night (too many nights, maybe I should call it a nights tale) that we took the boys for a second walk around 8:30. The warm breeze was very relaxing and the boys were both looking at the moon. Haflway through our first loop, Olya noticed Damien squirming trying to get comfortable, so I lowered the seat back to he could snooze off to slumber land. Good thing we preped the boys for bed before the walk, so we could just lay them in bed when we got home.
